My Decade at InVision: A Journey Rooted in Humility
I've been a proud member of the InVision family for about ten years, and I've never once regretted my decision to work for an organization where my values are so deeply ingrained in its guiding principles. Every new team member becomes familiar with a foundational story during orientation that truly sticks with them. Our trainers often draw on their direct experiences with the people we serve, highlighting both the challenges and rewards of providing support using positive approaches. This sets the stage, demonstrating to everyone that our core values and guiding principles are evident in our daily interactions with the community of people we support.

Every person we support is part of our family, and our philosophy is rooted in humility—not just as a guiding principle, but as a way of being. We aren't experts swooping in to take control of the homes and lives of the people we support. Instead, we are partners and collaborators walking alongside them, actively listening to their experiences, needs, and preferences without bias. We empower them to live their chosen lives in every circumstance.

We connect the people we support with their families and friends, and we strive to expand their social networks while ensuring every interaction upholds their dignity. We help them seek employment, volunteer opportunities, and encourage involvement in their communities. Our goal is to create an environment where they feel safe, respected, and valued. Our team members often end their shifts by sitting with the people they support to remind them of our unwavering commitment to support them. This ritual acts as a reset for everyone involved and is a powerful reminder of the strength of compassion.

InVision believes that humility in caregiving is an ongoing process of self-reflection. We take risks and demonstrate an openness to learning. We acknowledge that we don't always have all the answers, but we are committed to continuous learning, seeking out new ideas, collaborating with partners, and adapting our strategies and systems to better serve the people we support. We also never forget that despite all the knowledge and resources we bring to the table, the people we support are the true experts of their own lives, experiences, and needs.

Humility is the bedrock of our mission at InVision Human Services because it fosters trust among our teams and strengthens our relationships, which in turn produces impactful outcomes. It is our commitment to seeing and identifying people not just by looks or limitations and challenges, but for their strengths, resilience, and potential. By acting with humility, we don't just provide services; we build bridges, restore hope, and empower lives. It is incredibly fulfilling for me to be at a place where we uplift others, stay open to growth and are grounded in values that keep us connected to each other with shared humanity. This isn't just a virtue—it reminds us that we all have something to offer and something to learn.
